Cats Under the Stars: Enchanted Forest

This Cats Under the Stars resides in an enchanted forest, brim with flowers and foliage, fluttering butterflies, magical mushrooms, and endless possibility.
The base is crushed velvet, one of my favorite backdrops due to its ever-changing color and vibrancy.
The first (left) was taken at night. In lower light, the backdrop is darker and more mysterious—perfectly suited for the mischievous antics unfolding in the enchanted forest.
The second photo was taken during the day, when the crushed velvet harnesses the natural light and is magnified by it. By day the enchanted forest is buzzing, electric, and waiting to be discovered.
The cat is a patch, elevated to allow the forest to grow around it. The bottom triangle was my starting piece: the cornerstone. From there I built the fan, choosing whimsical fabrics that could convey the playfulness of the forest while incorporating patterns that conveyed the movement of energy both to and from the cat.
The cat herself is made from a black fabric embedded with gold sparkles, and the patch entire is stitched with a gold metallic thread, complimenting the gold stars overhead.
The 18x24 walnut box frame this art is housed in allowed for the depth required for the plants to bloom and the butterflies to appear suspended in air.
