China Cat Sunflower: Dream Night Wind

18x24 box frame; SOLD

Look for a while at the China Cat Sunflower.

She is striking. She is dignified. She is astute. She is on a quest for enlightenment, walking through a dream night wind.

Her kimono is made from a deep magenta silk, adorned with butterflies—a symbol of transformation—and embellished with a gorgeous gold trim with rainbow accents.

In her right hand, she carries a prayer rope, ornamented with dangling thirteen-point bolts, a marker of the Grateful Dead, whose lyrics serve as her guide, and an iridescent ankh, symbolic of life everlasting.

She is a bodhisattva, on a journey toward enlightenment.

Her spiritual journey is palpable—see the gold glow that radiates from behind?

This is her aura.

In the right light, her aura emanates even further, reflecting off the sequin backdrop, creating a second band of rainbow sparkle luminescence—like a double-e waterfall all over her back.

In her left hand she carries a sunflower-shaped parasol, cut from fabric of comic book colors and sewn with gold metallic thread. Its spokes are glittering gold bolts.

The parasol shades her from the midnight sun, which hangs in crescent-shape in the western sky.

The sky backdrop of this piece, constructed from oversized sequins, is magnetic—

like a crazy quilt star gown.

This art is housed in an 18x24 walnut box frame. The artist’s signature is tucked in the bottom right corner.
